Due to the recent Florida Supreme Court ruling watering down the power of parental waivers and releases MKMC is in the middle of a policy review with regards to safety at the track. We believe that most of our current safety policies are adequate if people will adhere to them. There are some areas that have not been clarified to date and others that have tended to be ignored. These are some of the areas we need to emphasize at this time. MKMC golf carts are to be operated by MKMC staff and safety personnel only.
-
Private golf carts and all other motor vehicles must be operated by persons holding a valid drivers license.
-
No unauthorized personnel are allowed inside the fenced racetrack area.
-
There is no spectators allowed on pit road or within the grid area. Access to this area is intended for kart racers and mechanics that are participating in the current race. Each racer only needs one mechanic to help lift their kart.
-
No mechanical work is to be preformed on the pit road, grid or anywhere in the restricted area. Mechanical work is to be done in the pits.
-
All people entering the pit area on race days must have a pit pass. NO EXCEPTIONS. Offenders must leave the property immediately.
Monticello Karting needs the help of all of our racers and members in making sure these rules are followed. We cannot afford a full time security staff to make people behave. And nobody wants that type of environment at the track. We need to police this ourselves. Please do your part to keep MKMC a safe and fun place to be.

June 23, 2008 - Over the past six months the Monticello Karting facilities have grown. A combination scoring tower and tech shed has been built and will be enclosed shortly, ten covered pit spots have been added and were rented no sooner than the last nail was driven. Plans are in the works for more on the east end. A surprise was also awaiting racers as they came for the May 31st race as a newly constructed grid cover was waiting for them. And, finally the long awaited bathrooms have arrived. The 18 stall bathrooms are even air conditioned, but I understand there is no couch in the women's :) Heck we even got running water for those non-locals that can't keep it on the track.

Bring your dad out on June 15th, have him pay for and complete a Driving School and he'll be treated to 10 free laps on the track in our Birel rental karts. Bring some sort of identification to prove he's your dad and no dead-beat dads, please. If dad has already completed our driving school, have him purchase a 10 lap ticket and we'll treat him to another 10 laps for free. And dad's, you must bring your son or daughter with you!
May 15, 2008 - As a direct result of the fluctuations in the EURO and the increase in pricing from Birel Spa, it is necessary to increase our Retail Kart Pricing. The new pricing will be as follows:
Easykart 50cc : $2195.00
Easykart 60cc : $3995.00
Easykart 100cc : $4695.00
Easykart 125cc : $5195.00
Easykart 125cc Shifter : $6595.00
Easykart Americas has held the old prices for long as possible, while the Euro has gone from average 1.40 to now almost 1.60. So while we would like the Easykart product to remain as attractively priced as possible we cannot overlook our increased expenses.

May 3-4, 2008 - Stop number three of the Florida Kart Championship Series (FKCS), was at Monticello Karting this past weekend. The weather could not have been more perfect as it made for quick laps, close competition and an overall Chamber of Commerce weekend. Many drivers showed up on Thursday and Friday for practice before the racing began on Saturday.
Monticello karters would take the track on Saturday in four different classes, Kid Kart, Easykart 100, Easykart 125 Lite and Tag Heavy. Starting off with Easykart 100, Lucas Rego from south Florida would put his kart on pole with a new track record of 59.089. Local drivers Curtis Morgan of Monticello, FL and Will Courreges of Tallahassee, FL would end up 5th and 10th respectively in qualifying. Rego would eventually finish in 2nd place in the pre-final to Space Coast Florida's Eric Filgueras. Curtis Morgan would run into problems from the start and not complete a lap of the pre-final, while Courreges would end up 9th. Rego would pull to an almost four second lead in the final for the win. Morgan overcame his pre-final woes and would finish a hard fought 6th, while Courreges battled with young Jason Devine to place 8th.
Next up was the Easykart 125 Lite, where five Monticello Karting drivers would compete. After qualifying was over the Monticello Karters found themselves in 1st, 3rd, 4th, 8th & 9th. Overall fast qualifier Nick Rickert would end up with a new track record of 57.132 and pole position, while Chris Grektorp of Tallahassee, FL and Michelle Hummell of Pace, FL would end up 3rd & 4th separated by a mere .019 seconds. Gainesville, FL's, Peter Kraft would end up 8th after a long awaited return to racing at Monticello, while Tallahassee's Henry Ferree would end up shotgun on the field after failing to start on the grid for qualifying.
From the drop of the green flag in the pre-final Nick Rickert knew something was wrong as a flat tire would cause an early retirement while running 2nd. Hummell would fight with south Florida's and 2007 Easykart 125 Lite FKCS Champion Daniel Delgado for a 3rd place finish, while two seconds back Ferree and Grektorp were battling for 5th. Ferree would hold off Grektorp for the position as Peter Kraft battled with south Florida's Kyle Connery to eventually finish 8th. The final would have everyone start in their pre-final finishing positions and after starting 3rd and running 2nd for 6 laps, Grektorp's kart would loose the rear bumper only to be black flagged and finish 9th, while only 2 laps later Rickert would be black flagged for loosing his air-box and finish 8th. Peter Kraft would end up 7th, as Ferree would score a 6th place finish after fighting with Connery. The best finish of the class for Monticello Karting was Michelle Hummell, whom continued her string of podium finishes in FKCS races with a close battle with James Shahan and Delgado for the 2nd spot on the podium!
Tag Heavy would also run on Saturday and include names like JC Courreges, Bob Wegman and Ken Holland, all local Monticello Karting drivers. Wegman in his Sonik powered Arrow, would end up 3rd in qualifying with a 1.00.747, while Courreges and Holland in stock Easykart's would end up 4th and 9th respectively. All of those positions would change for the pre-final as after many a hard fought pass Holland would end up in 3rd. Courreges would end up 6th and Wegman 10th after a turn one crash that would cause them to start last on the field. The 15 lap final wouldn't be so lucky for Holland as after 5 laps found himself side-lined with a blown motor. Courreges would hold onto his 4th place starting position for the entire race to finish there after racing hard with eventual 3rd place finisher Mark Thomas for 15 laps, as Wegman would start lap one in 10th and fight his way up to 5th.
Sunday would see Easykarts compete in three classes, Easykart 60, Easykart 125 Heavy and Tag. The rising stars of the sport in Easykart 60 would take the track for qualifying and include local drivers, Aubrey Duncan, Drew Kimbrel, Brian Lockwood and Nic Shealey. Coming out on top was Nic Shealey with a pole sitting time of 1.08.992, followed closely by Brian Lockwood with a 1.09.404. Kimbrel and Duncan would end up 5th and 8th. A four kart break away in the pre-final would end up with Shealey finishing in 1st and Lockwood in 2nd, leaving Kimbrel and Duncan to battle for 6th & 7th. Shealey, Lockwood and Ashley Rogero would all end up running under the pole-sitting qualifying time in the final as the three would check out on the field and continue a 10 lap nose to tail battle ending up with Shealey in 1st and Lockwood in 3rd, as Lockwood would also capture fast lap of the weekend for the 60's with a 1.08.448 lap. Kimbrel and Duncan struggled all day for speed and settled for 7th and 10th.
Easykart 125 Heavy which is normally Monticello Karting's largest class with 15 plus drivers ended up having only 7 entrants with 4 being Monticello Karters. Tallahassee's Brett Thompson, would capture pole position with a new track record of 58.555. co-track owner Tim Phipps would place 2nd with a 59.551 and Ken Holland 3rd with a 59.758. JC Courreges would end up 6th after struggling with a "hop" in qualifying. The pre-final was all Thompson as he cruised to a 8.7 second lead, but the best part was the top four were all from Monticello, Phipps 2nd, Holland 3rd and Courreges in 4th. The final again was all Thompson as after 10 laps, he had opened up a 10 second lead to finish 1st. Holland would end up 2nd and Courreges would find his way to the podium in 3rd. Phipps would end his day early as a mid race accident with Peter Pestano would side-line both karts.
Once again the largest class of the FKCS weekend was Tag with 18 entries. Monticello Karting fielded 3 drivers and one Easykart in the field which was comprised of Leopards, Soniks, a Rok TT and 2 Easykarts. All the karts in the field were sent out at once for qualifying in order to give all drivers equal time on track. After only one lap, local driver Nick Rickert pulled his Easykart in and would stand on his time of 57.892, which would end up being a new track record and good enough for pole, his 2nd of the weekend. Chris Grektorp would qualify 5th with a 58.689 in his Sonik powered Gillard, while Monticello's Bob Wegman would end up 13th. Tallahassee's Brett Thompson failed to make a lap and would start at the back of the field.
The pre-final was all Rickert as he checked out on the field to the tune of 4.895 seconds over Grektorp whom came up from his 5th place starting position. Brett Thompson would pass 9 karts in the first lap and eventually finish 7th, Wegman moved up 4 spots to finish 9th, but the drive of the weekend had to be Dane Ierna's drive to 3rd after starting last. Ierna had to make a kart change to his trusty Easykart after his Leopard powered CRG had engine troubles. Ierna passed 9 karts in his first two laps of the race and would also record the quickest race lap on his way forward.
The final was the race of the weekend as Grektorp, Rickert and Ierna proceeded to set a blistering pace on the field. Grektorp got the jump on the start and would head into turn two with Ierna in 2nd and Rickert in 3rd. The two Easykarts of Ierna and Rickert hooked up to try and motor past Grektorp and on lap 6 Ierna bobbled off turn 17 and gave up the position to Rickert. But even after the positions switched neither driver had the power to motor past Grektorp and he would finish 1st just .053 ahead of Rickert in 2nd. Bob Wegman would wheel his Arrow to an 11th place finish, while Brett Thompson would troubles in the late laps and would finish a lap down in 15th after working his way up to 8th.
Based on the results of the first couple of races in the FKCS the Easykart 125 has proven to be very competitive at the new WKA weight of 350 lbs, with 4 top three place finishes and one win. For more information on the Easykart line of karts visit www.easykart.com.
Round four is June 7-8, 2008 in Moroso, FL at Moroso Motorsports Park.

April 15, 2008 - Round three of the Florida Kart Championship Series presented by Easykart & OGP will be held at the Monticello Karting & Motor Club on May 3-4, 2008. The series showcases the talents of drivers young and old throughout the state of Florida and the southeast.
Monticello Karting will host a practice day the Friday before the event at a cost of $50.00 per driver, additional pit passes for crew are $10.00 each. Monticello karting has also allowed for early trailer drop-off if anyone is attending the local series race on April 26th or open practice day on April 25th. Drivers and teams wanting that extra practice are encouraged to come to the local race on the 26th and may leave their trailers at the track for the week. Although the track is fenced there will be no over night security and you will be leaving your items at your own risk.
All Monticello Karting local series drivers are encouraged to attend and make a good showing for our club. To date, Monticello Karting has had eight podium finishes in two FKCS races, lets add a few more to the Monticello Karting trophy case and show-off what we've learned over the past two years. To run the FKCS race you must be a WKA member and a FKCS member. Entry forms and membership applications are available here under the "Files" section. The entry form and event flyer should be posted shortly.
March 23, 2008 - The first round of the Florida Kart Championship Series presented by Easykart & OGP was held at the 103rd St Sports Complex in Jacksonville, FL on March 22-23, 2008. The race is the first of a series of five to be held throughout the state of Florida. Seven local racers from Monticello Karting participated in the event which included drivers from all over Florida and as far north as Ohio.
All but one Monticello Karting Easykart driver landed on the podium during the two days of racing, but none lower than fourth! Starting on Saturday, Nick Rickert (Dayton, TN) piloted his Easykart 125 to the pole position in Easykart 125 Lite class. Local driver Michelle Hummell (Pace, FL) qualified third. Rickert and Hummell would cross the line in the pre-final in 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the final Rickert and south Florida's Jamie Shahan checked out on the field by 6 seconds. On the last lap of the race while running a behind leader Shahan, Rickert attempted a last turn pass for the win and spun giving up 2nd spot to Hummell. Hummell and Rickert finished 2nd & 3rd for the first podium finishes for Monticello Karting at an FKCS race in 2008.
Sunday was the big day for the rest of the Monticello Karting Easykart drivers as three classes were contested. Easykart 60 drivers Brian Lockwood (Tallahassee, FL) and Drew Kimbrell (Monticello, FL) found themselves first and second after qualifying. But the pre-final and final where all Kimbrell as he cruised to a 10 plus second lead in both races. Lockwood found himself in heavy traffic and in 4th position for most of the final before using the draft in classic Jacksonville style and making two passes at once to end up on the second step of the podium.
Ken Holland (Tallahassee, FL) qualified 3rd for Easykart 125 Heavy and found the going not so "Easy" as he ran into troubles in his final race. After battling it out with several drivers and leading a lap, in what was one of the best battles of the weekend, Holland had to retire in 4th place after contact damaged his kart with a bent tie-rod with only a few laps to go. But that wasn't the end for Holland as an eventual DSQ in the tech shed of the race winner lead to the 5th podium finish for Monticello Karting of the weekend as Holland would take over the 3rd spot.
TAG (Touch and Go) was the largest class of the weekend with 17 karts in the field. Four Easykarts took on the sea of Leopards and proved the Easykart's competitiveness in the Regional series. Chris Grektorp's (Tallahassee, FL) last minute entry in an Easykart gained him a 3rd place qualifying position only to be DQ'd for being underweight. Only .010 behind Grektorp was Nick Rickert whom would end up starting 3rd due to Chris's DQ. Rickert battled with pole sitter Nicholas Andries for a few laps before making a pass and setting sail on the pre-final win. Nick would start lap one of the final in second place as local Jacksonville, FL driver Michael Andrews got the jump on the start and would lead the first half of the race with Nick on his heals. The two pulled out a 5 second gap on 3rd place while Chris Grektorp tore thru the field from a next to last place starting position to eventually finish 4th. Rickert passed Andrews at half way and was able to hold of the hard charging driver even through a last lap side-by-side battle thru turn one and two, giving Monticello Karting it's 6th podium finish of the weekend.
Monticello Karting wishes to extend a job well done and congratulations to all drivers whom competed in the FKCS series race. The 3rd stop on the FKCS series will be in Monticello on May 3-4, 2008, make plans to attend now!

September 25, 2007 - Two local Monticello Karting drivers will be attending the Easykart World Finals in Cervia, Italy this October after winning their way in the Easykart Grand Nationals races held here this month. Congratulations go out to Easykart 60 driver Drew Kimbrel and Easykart 125 Heavy driver Brett Thompson.
Drew was able to race up through the pack each race after a mid-pack qualifying effort. Starting the final on outside pole, Drew and eventual runner-up Bobby Stevens put on a show for the Monticello crowd. Each driver lead laps and coming down the closing laps swapped the lead lap after lap and turn after turn. Drew held on to the lead on the final lap and came across the finish line to the roar from the locals.
The Easykart 125 Heavy class belonged to Brett Thompson as he dominated all but one race in his newly purchased Easykart 125. Brett purchased the kart on Thursday and won on Sunday! Qualifying found Brett in 2nd position and that's where he would start each pre-final, but for the final Brett would start on pole and never look back.
Monticello Karting would like to wish Brett and Drew the best of luck in their ventures in Italy next month. We look forward to hearing all about their adventures.
July 24, 2007 - Due to the tremendous requests for practice over our first year and a half, Monticello Karting has created a new non-member multi-level practice policy. On Fridays preceding local race dates and beginning with Friday, August 10, 2007, practice will be allowed to non-members for $50.00 per driver (includes pit pass). This will allow out-of-towners to practice then race the next day for $50.00 (pit pass and parking included). This is a welcome change to karters who's geographical location did not make membership feasible.
Secondly, a list of dates, mainly Fridays will be announced for open practice to non-members and members, for a fee of $100.00 per driver (includes pit pass). Members practice for free and guests of member's that would like to drive the member's kart will be required to pay the $50.00 practice fee. Additional pit passes are $10.00 and are mandatory for all entering the pit/grid areas.
May 23, 2007 - New summer hours will be: Closed Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. Open Thursday & Friday from 1pm to 7pm, Saturday 11am to 6pm and Sunday 1pm to 6pm.

Monticello Karting is hosting the 2007 Easykart Grand Nationals and hence will definitely be pushing for the top spot again in 2007.
In the rest of the Americas, it is Inversiones Easykart Venezuela that takes the top spot as the Highest Volume Sales Dealer in Central and South America. Inversiones Easykart Venezuela will be hosts of the 2007 Pan-American Easykart Championship in Aug 2007. An event that will probably see it's largest entries since it's inception a few years ago.
Easykart America thanks all of it's Dealers and appreciate their continued support.
March 12, 2007 - Due to numerous complexities and logistics in hosting our first multiple class endurance race, the Monticello Karting & Motor Club has decided to simplify the upcoming slate of races to be held April 1st, 2007. It has always been the goal of MKMC to create a fun and rewarding event to mark their first anniversary. With the following changes we can reach these goals and will allow us to concentrate on good clean safe fun.
In order to enhance this division, the decision has been made to run only a TAG class (15 yrs & up), under WKA rules. This will allow us to do a Le Mans style start and consolidate the prize money to make the rewards more meaningful.
A spec tire for the TAG class has also been finalized, the new MG SLE or MG Blue.
Instead of basing the prize money on number of entries for this event, we are going to offer set rewards as follows:
1st Place - $2,500 cash, name and helmet colors of the winners will be shown in the new "Kart Champions" video game by Jacksonville, FL based SE Games.
2nd Place - $1,000 cash
3rd Place - $500 cash
4th Place - One set of MG Tires
5th Place - Full year subscription to VROOM Karting Magazine
Thanks to everyone who has made our first year a success.
Complete updated rules, schedule and entry list are posted at www.monticellokarting.com. For more information contact Monticello Karting & Motor Club at gm@monticellokarting.com

The Montoya Cup will kick off the new Easykart Championship Series with a one-off event sure to become an annual classic. Other track highlights will include Jacksonville, Homestead, and two trips to Moroso, one of them being the Grand Nationals.
Easykart C.O.O. Salomon Bendayan felt it was important to launch its first Championship series in Florida. We have many racers in this state who have been waiting for us to form our own Championship Series, and we wanted to build on our existing Grand National. We felt that it was time to be able to bring competitors from all of our classes together. Our Grand National event will be at Moroso Motorsports Park and once again we will be awarding to each class winner a fully paid trip to the Easykart World Finals in Italy. I think we have a lineup of exciting venues along with a series that will allow competitor in all classes to race on the same weekend, said Pablo Montoya, Easykart C.E.O.
